What was once a forgotten commercial space, closed and silent, has been reborn under a new architectural vision. The project aims to capitalize on the latent potential of the site, transforming an urban void into a new living space. The 11 homes, designed with a contemporary approach, respect the original structure of the building but reinterpret it with a modern focus, creating a smooth transition between the past and the present.
What begins as a simple project to change the use of part of a building becomes an urban revitalization intervention in the heart of a growing city, Arrecife, the capital of Lanzarote, where the need for housing is increasingly urgent. This intervention not only offers housing solutions but also reinterprets the urban fabric, contributing quality and revitalization to its surroundings.
The homes face the street as a series of wooden boxes, a proposal that plays with the idea of the storefront that each of the panels once formed the facade. These “boxes,” with clean lines and well-defined volumes, create a visual dynamism that transforms the facade, establishing a dialogue between the interior and exterior.
From the street, each home appears as a singular space, open yet intimate, as if they were small modern retreats on display.
This “storefront box” concept brings a new urban image, in which the building not only offers functionality but also an aesthetic value that enhances the surroundings. The homes integrate into the urban landscape harmoniously, yet fresh and distinct, making the architectural intervention a key element in the city’s evolution.
Each of the 11 homes has been designed with a contemporary focus, maximizing natural light and spatial flow. The interiors are crafted to provide comfort with enough space to live well, seeking to generate a sense of well-being and expansiveness while adapting to the current needs of urban life. The architectural solutions have been carefully thought out to offer modern comfort while maintaining simplicity and functionality as core principles.
The reuse of an abandoned commercial space avoids uncontrolled expansion toward the peripheries, opting to densify the urban center in an intelligent and sustainable manner. The project injects new energy into the urban fabric, creating a more vibrant and livable environment that fosters community and improves quality of life.
Thus, what was once a forgotten space now emerges as a place where urban life takes form. This project, with its modern approach and respect for the surroundings, brings a new image to the city and offers its residents the opportunity to live in a quality environment. It is an intervention that, in its simplicity and elegance, successfully addresses the challenge of adapting the past to the demands of the present, offering a new horizon to the city and its inhabitants.
